Subsidy for people with Swiss nationality or a C permit

A Swiss national or C permit holder domiciled in Geneva? Your subsidy is in principle renewed automatically on the basis of your RDU. But for a first application, or if your RDU is out of date, a step with the SAM is required.

🔒 Free estimate, no obligation · The final decision rests with the SAM.

Automatic renewal: how does it work?

If you have already received the subsidy and your unified determining income (RDU) is calculated by the authorities from your tax assessment, the SAM automatically reviews your entitlement each year. If you remain within a group of the scale, the subsidy is renewed without any action on your part.

When do you need to take action?

💡
Did you know? Many eligible Geneva residents miss out on their subsidy for lack of a first application. The 2026 scale goes up to CHF 50,000 of RDU for a single person and CHF 115,000 for a couple without children.

How much under the 2026 scale?

The adult subsidy ranges from CHF 55 to CHF 348 per month depending on your income group. A couple can receive up to CHF 696 per month, and each dependent child adds CHF 132 per month while raising the thresholds by CHF 6,000. Use our calculator to estimate your amount in 2 minutes.

How we help you, free of charge

Our advisers check whether your RDU creates an entitlement, prepare the first application or the update file, and submit it to the SAM. Any subsidy granted is backdated to the start of the year.

Frequently asked questions

Not necessarily. Renewal is automatic only for people who already have a recognised entitlement and an up-to-date RDU. If you have never filed an application, the SAM pays nothing, even if your income qualifies you: a first application is required.
The RDU is indeed based on the latest available tax assessment. If your income has since fallen, you can ask the SAM to update your situation so that your subsidy matches your current income.
In principle no: it is paid directly to your health insurer and deducted from your monthly premium, backdated to the start of the year in the case of a new award.
