Who counts as a young adult in 2026?

The canton of Geneva's 2026 scale treats people born between 2001 and 2007 as young adults. This category receives a specific subsidy amount, separate from those for adults and children.

How much subsidy for a young adult?

Under the official 2026 scale, the young adult subsidy is CHF 231 per month for income groups 1 to 8, and CHF 106 per month for group 9 (households with children). Your group depends on your unified determining income (RDU) and your household situation.

💡
Studying or in training? Your income is often low, which usually places you in the first groups of the scale: almost all young adults in education in Geneva are entitled to the subsidy.

Why reapply every year?

Unlike adults, whose subsidy is in principle renewed automatically on the basis of the RDU, young adults must file a new application every year with the Cantonal Health Insurance Office (SAM). Without action on your part, the subsidy is not paid, even if you are entitled to it.
